What we need to do is establish if the 407/408 Mk1 starter is the same as the 408 Mk2/409/410 starter.

The Bristol part number for the 408 Mk2/409/410 starter was 2095150. If this is a match with the part# for the 407/408 Mk1 starter, then it is probably safe to just search for a 318 starter ("A" series, or poly head).

Does anyone have a parts list for the 407/408 Mk1 ?
Sorry to take quite so long to respond and no, I do not have the Bristol Nos., but two different contemporaneous Autodata-type sources give the same information:

407/08 Starter Motor — Autolite MDU700
408 Mk.II/09 Starter Motor — Chrysler, solenoid with reduction gear
