Default Distributors for the small block Chrysler engine

Your local expert is correct in that someone had installed a GM/Delco Remy (UGH!) in your Chrysler of Canada small block Chrysler engine. All the small blocks used the same distributor for many years, with the later ones coming with electronic ignition, but the same case and you can retro-fit to the newer and more reliable one. Small blocks came in several displacements, starting out at 273 cubic inches and growing to 360 inches over the years. Early engines had a different cylinder head, identified by the 'wavy' valve covers, but still essentially the same block. That very same distributor goes back to the 50's in engines such as the legendary Hemis of the larger Chrysler offerings. Sourcing a good distibutor should not be difficult, and a new unit can be had, complete and ready to install from the Chrysler Corporation, Moparts division for about $200 USD. Good luck and don't be put off by various opinions on what is a very simple matter. Ron
