400 handbrake cable remake

Does anyone have or know where i can get a handbrake cable for my 400. Mine snapped today at the rod that comes into the car at the threaded rod that goes into the brake lever.

I an assuming it will all have to be removed and made up to patten by a brake refurbishment company .
I am in Uk Scotland.

Graham

Mine came from BCL. Worth a phone call?

Graham ,
I suppose you know ,the hand brake cable is quite different between early and later 400's . Make sure you quote the chassis number to BCL if you go that route .
In the past I have taken the inner and outer cables off the car and had a new inner made by a specialist , but I can not recommend any in Scotland.

Geoff

All,
Thanks for responses. I have an enquiry in with bcl and they are sending me photos for me to compare.( differencs as you say geoff). I have the workshop manual in pdf amd have a twin pawl flyoff h brake. Yet to see what return spring type i have.

There seems to be a very long run of conduit ( solid outer core) to the rear of the car then a flexible sheath between chassis and axle then the attchment to the rod pivot.

I may have caused this failure ( though cable was frayed) on reassembly ( fitting overdrive) as on the cable rod that comes into car at g box tunnel and threads thru a shaped pin in the hand brake ,theres a very small hex on the rod for a spanner presumably to stop it rotating when screwing on the larger hex bolt .
More something for others to remember. However the rod has a flat profile on it as does the pin so it should not have rotated any how.

I have used cable tec before to make up new ac mkiv hand brake cables so as well as buying new from bcl i will attempt refurb if possible as back up.

Handbrake Cable

Dear Flyinghorse,
I had the same thing happen to me and bought a replacement from Bristol"s spares department, unfortunately it was the cable for the later 400's which have an outer metal casing whereas my one is just a bare cable which runs through something like a brake pipe conduit. So the good news is I have an unused spare cable which would probably fit your car but the bad news is goodness knows where I have put it, hung it up or otherwise disposed of it. Then again if I cant find it you can get one from Bristols or have one made up like I did by posting yours to a company called Cable-Tec who are proper old fashioned and like to talk to you about what you want over the phone. If you cant find their details I can look them out for you.
Best wishes,
Daniel
