Re: 403 Windscreen wiper cable

Should anyone be looking for the inner drive cable for the winscreen wipers
on cars with Lucas CRT motors, probably models 400 - 403, these are
available from www.morrisminor.uk.com/shop. Their part number is WPR121A

wiper stuff for 401/3

Thanks for that Mike. For anyone in trouble ( or expecting it ! ) from their wiper gear, they could try ' The Electrical Parts Co. ' 01584 811575. Following a hairy 450 mile drive in the pouring rain back from the south of France about 4 years ago without w/screen wipers ( thank God for Rainex ! ), I bought a brand new N.O.S. wiper motor and drive unit from them.
They also had reconditioned units for sale and are v. knowledgeable.
BTW, the problem that I found with Rainex is that the water on the screens
only disperses really satisfactorally if the speed is above 60 or so m.p.h. This presents a dilemma on a wet autoroute with lorries throwing up a spray and lights from oncoming cars blinding you anyway. Safe slow speed but can't see out or a clear windscreen but going too fast for safety ? Anyone had a similar experience with Rainex ?

David:

My 405 wipers packed up in New Zealand two years ago, leaving Westport
on a day that had 300 mm of rain. It was like night and I could barely
make out the nearest bit of the dotted white line. Fortunately there
was almost no traffic. I only learnt about Rainex after that, and was
shown how to apply it in very small circular motions, really rubbing
it into the glass. I find it works quite well even at say 30 mph. Try
really working it in and washing it down then polishing afterwards.
It's a fairly new screen; maybe an older one could be more pitted and
not get a slick?
