406 Gearbox Identification

1 Attachment(s)
Hello,

I bought a car several years ago but almost everything is in pieces and there were several cars mixed up.

I wonder if one of the boxes fits my Bristol 406 engine? Because it looks a lot like an MG B gearbox with Overdrive.

Anyone have pictures of this Bristol 406 gearbox?

Thanks in advance

Sadly I'm afraid you are right. This isn't a Bristol gearbox. the 406 has a short gear lever on an extension, and an overdrive fitted making it longer.

Ok Thank you Stephan.

Just to be sure before to sell it the gearbox

I need to prepare a stock of gold coins to rebuild my Bristol !:)

The MGB input shaft should work. I use one to line up the clutch when replacing them on Bristol engines. The bell housing would be a bit different, I think.
If you do find a way of attaching an MGB 'box make sure you get one with 4 layshaft roller bearings. This is the weakest part of the MGB unit.

Good to know about clutch alignment.

Probably need a plate between engine and gearbox (MGB) and maybe so much modifications (bracket - length of the gearbox ...then length of trans..)

It will be easier if I found a good gearbox for my Bristol.

Maybe inside spare parts bazaar on my garage (Cross fingers but sadly probably not)
