bristol 403 petrol filler cap
Hi
Can anyone tell me how the petrol cap on a Bristol 403 is held on to the tank filler tube is it soldered or screwed on ??? regards William |
Hi William
On my 401's we discovered it was soldered on and I suspect your 403 will be the same. We had cut the pipe out of a spares car and had it in the vice on the bench before making that discovery when applying a bit of heat to get it to move, if we had realised that we could have done it directly on the spares car as the petrol tank had been taken out long before we got it. The one on the car we wanted to replace was in bad condition including the mounting rim, I can't remember if Mike who was helping me cut that carefully with a hacksaw blade or small chisel but thankfully it came off easily as the tank on that car was in place so it would have had to have been removed if we had needed to melt the solder. We cleaned up the end of the pipe and glued the replacement to it which has been totally satisfactory. Geoff. |
