It's very interesting to see because that head is worse than the one I
scrapped when I built my engine. However there are obvious cracks
between the plug holes and valve seats and I wonder how you're going
to tackle these.

Hi Ashley,
Thanks for the interest. The cracks you have observed are only superficial, for some strange reason there is an undercut just underneath the dome surface. This undercut increases the diameter of the spark plug hole by approximately a sixteenth of an inch. Maybe at some point the plug threads have been “helicoiled “and the tapping drill was stopped short of going all the way. The plugs have not been removed during the repairs so far, to maintain the integrity of the threads, also in the pressure tests carried out so far, there have been no leaks. John

Thanks for that, I run and my son repairs and restores MKVI/R Type
Bentleys and they crack there and still pressure test okay. It's
really impressive to see someone tackle a seriously rotten head,
hopefully it will inspire others to attempt the same.
I'd be happy to host some shots and a brief write on up www.jel450.com
if you don't have a better home for it.

Ashley,
Your words of encouragement are very much appreciated. Maybe this will inspire others to have a go; it would be nice to think so.
I‘ll take a rain check on you’re kind offer, if I may. See the project through first.
John

[quote=rubbond;1616]Now this has nothing to do with Bristols

So I have moved it to a new thread about Bentley & R-R Specials in the Other Cars forum :)

Ash, my moderation consists mainly of moving off-topic posts into a new thread in the appropriate forum. I do this to respect the wishes of other members who only want to see discussions that are relevant to the forum. The way these posts about Bentley & R-R have been moved is an ideal example.

As for link moderation, this post explains my approach, which I believe is very reasonable.
