403 dashboard lights
 

I started my 403 up and the fan was blowing so I turned it off and appear to have fused something as dash board the lights do not work and the fan has stopped.

Everything else still works & I checked the two fuses under the controller. Is there another fuse hidden inside?

Where is your electric fan switch connected? The fans draw quite a bit of power.

I'm sure that you have checked Peter, but if is of any use - I have a problem with the dashboard lights on my 403 also. Occasionally the lights go out for no apparent reason. The fault lies with the rheostat behind the ' L ' knob. A twirl of the knob and the lights come on again. Perhaps your rheostat has packed up completely. In my experience the rheostat is not needed anyway. A simple on / off switch would suffice.

I'll check it next time I go to the car. Is it a push/ pull switch as well?
(or just the button pulls on the stalk).

Generally the dashboard knobs with the knurled perimeters ( the 'L' knob should be knurled ) operate rheostats only and rotate only. Another example is the demister knob. The knobs with the smooth perimeters are push / pull for on / off operation. BTW, I have converted my demister switch to operate the fan at maximum speed as an on /off switch but keeping the original knob. Hope this helps.
