Mounting an alternator
 

Having bought an alternator with two lower and one upper mounting lug I have found that the rear lug fouls the engine mounting strut.

The dynamo is much longer so it isn't an issue. By my measurement the distance between mountings needs to be 125 mm, which is much longer than any alternator available. I know alternators fitted in dynamo cases are available but they cost an arm and a leg.

Is there an elegant way of mounting the alternator, such as drilling a hole in the top of the engine mounting strut to recess the alternator, so that I can make use of the engine block and rear dynamo mounting which would avoid all the alignment issues?
