404x chassis number
 

Looking for exactly where the chassis number is located on my 404x. It has a chevy engine so I do not know if this may have covered the chassis number.

unusual to see a stateside Bristol afficionado! I'm actually looking to sell my 411 without having to ship it back to US (I'm in San Francisco). Do you know anyone who might be interested? many thanks.

The number is on the top of the right hand chassis rail about half way along from the firewall. When you find it I would like to have it to post to the Registry

Here are some pictures of the chassis plates on several Arnolts. Please note that we found the chassis plate on one of the early cars (3004) on the left side frame rail, so look there as well. It might be covered by old grease and dirt. The pictures of 3071 show where it is located in relation to the Chevrolet engine that is installed in this car. Partially under the new motor mounts, but it was not destroyed. The frame is stamped also so look for that. The chassis number is also on 2 plates mounted on the firewall, one from Bristol and one from SH Arnolt. These could be missing though.

John - Thank you for your help. As you stated, my number is on the left frame rail. You might be interested in what I found, 404x3003.

That adds credence to my speculation on why it was on the left side on 3004. remember, the 404 for the home market was RHD. The tubing for the brake lines and chassis lube would have run along the right side frame rail, so it made sense to put the data plate on the left side. I suspect that the factory continued with normal procedure on the early cars until somebody realized it made more sense to put it on the right side for the LHD chassis.

I think that they are all on the right (when sitting in the drivers seat) and on the left (when standing infront of the car)

3004 is definitely on the drivers side frame rail of this LHD car, and it seems from the posts that it is on the drivers side of 3003 as well.
