Suggestions on removing suspension unit body

Thoughts welcome on removing the suspension unit body pn 408-2-30026. Six nuts have been removed but I'm reluctant to start prying lest I damage the casting. Rear axle and torsion bar have been removed. Thanks in advance.

Hi

It sounds like you have done the hard work.

It sits on six studs - if you have all the nuts off and the torsion bar out then it's probably just corrosion. From memory on mine it was some tapping and penetrating oil to get it loose.

Photograph attached - and also showing where there was corrosion that needed welding.

Thank you, Giles.

I'll keep oiling and tapping until it comes off. These are the last two items left on the body/chassis.

Giles,
I've been able to pry the rear of the unit body down about a half inch but it appears to be binding. The front of the unit won't release. Does it need to need to come straight out on all six bolts?

Yes, I think so - but yours sounds like it is binding much more than mine did.

Giles: Tried a 12 lb. lead hammer; torch; rust release.

No luck so I drilled out the bolt...began with a 1/8th inch drill bit and worked up to the full diameter of the bolt. Worked perfectly. Once this bolt was gone, the other five let go right away.
