Mini starter motor

I finally got round to fitting a more modern starter to my 410. Very impressed!
It's about a third the weight and size and spins the engine twice as fast.
Powermaster PowerMax Plus 9300.
Electrical connections much easier with Mini starter relocation kit SUM-820442
Both items purchased from Summit Racing in the US and arrived within around a week of placing the order.

High Speed Starter

I fitted a similar starter about 10 yeas ago from the same source. The difference was amazing both in battery drain, speed of ignition and the lightweight of the unit. Simple to fit.
It has now done 10 years and if I live that long another 10 years, I have had my 407 for 25 years.

I've done a bit of digging around on starters on Mopar forums, several of which suggest using a Dodge factory mini-starter from a mid-'90s Dakota. OEM quality and lower cost than aftermarket. Rock Auto can quote in local currencies (GBP for me) on their catalogue pages and final prices including duty on the checkout page

Haven't bought one yet though, as the stock 383 one is soldering on still. But I've bought plenty of stuff in the past for my '95 Corvette (now sold) and still do for my '90 Chevy truck, as well as bits for my 411. I find them very good.

Exactly what I did, and I’ve always had very good service from Rock Auto too. From memory, it needed a tiny bit of grinder persuasion to fit on a big block.

Philip, where the terminals on the block side of the starter motor? If so, was there sufficient clearance for the cables and terminals or did you have to get one of those kits that move the terminal connections?

Terminals/wiring were fine - I’ll have a look next week when I’m with the car.
