Has anyone any advice regarding the type of sheet foam to use behind the lining material on the A pillars and the rollover bar uprights?
Having just rebuilt the car from the waist up thanks to water ingress and then retention in the foam, I don't fancy doing it again.
Scrim foam soaks up and retains water.

I'm trying to do same job. I've just bought 1/2"- 13mm wide foam from upholstery place. I didn't know of any non-absorbent type. Also between the metal and foam was a thin cotton, probably soaking up more moisture.

Yes, the scrim foam from, for example, Martrim, comes with a cloth backing. It's put there to make it better behaved when sewn into panels, pleats etc.

Closed cell foam is available - sometimes in neoprene form - like wetsuits - sometimes for waterproof cushions.

Having asked everyone I know the bias is in favour of using non-closed cell foam. While it may soak up water, it can also release it over time. If water got in between closed cell and metal it would stay there longer.

But a really good paint job will help a lot. I have some Massey-Ferguson charcoal grey left over so that will do well over the primer.........
Then a good dollop of wax into the hollow sections

Thanks for reply. Whilst on subject of interior for roll bar. Question is the interior lights for my car, currently missing, are located in top part of roof, rather than others I've seen in sides. There are rectangular holes cut about 3 1/2"x 1 1/4". Anyone know what type interior light used, maybe 80s jag?

Oliver thats an interesting question . My 412 is a series 1 and has the round ones on the side pillar. A search of the internet didnt help much but I found a 1980 series 2 with the same lights as mine. What year is your car ?

Mine's a 1980 S2 with round lights in the B posts.
Snag is I can't find where I've put them - but then they were broken anyway.
Putting them under the roll bar looks a good plan.
I notice that the rear channel is - er - crusty on Olivers

Hello,
My car is an '87 Beaufighter.
Yes, the roof beam was covered in surface rust, but seems quite solid. the bit in photo with daylight coming through rim section is one of worse bits. I found more holes around edges of bonnet and boot. I'm after new rubber seals all round for car. I looked up Martrim, they've got suitable seals for boot and doors. They didn't have sort for where roof joins soft-top. It's about 1"x1" deep - the one along rim in photo.
