Dismantling the wooden parts in 408
I want to renovate all the wooden parts in my 408 except for the dashboard which is okay. Could anybody give an advice how to remove the wooden strip on top of the dashboard (near front window)- do I have to take out the dash or is there a smarter way to get the strip out?
Thanks Hans ..by the way ... the 409 which appears lately in the album belongs to a German motor journalist, Rolf Klein, a nice guy who helped my with my paperwork for the German registration of my 408. |

From memory, remove the ashtrays and access the fixings underneath,
This should allow removal. David |

I have this nagging feeling that there might have been one superfluous right-angled bracket somewhere, but this might have been some other piece of woodwork as I adopted this technique when disassembling all such pieces, thereafter. Geo. |
I have also been just trying to remove the wood next to the windscreen on my 408 in order to repair some cloudy varnish. I have removed the ash tray on the passenger side but I am struggling with the ashtray on the steering wheel side. Is is necessary to remove the gear selector button mechanism ? Greg

Greg
The selector buttons do not need to be removed. It is held in exactly the same way as the passanger side. They can rust in if there has been any windscreen leaks. Regards, David |
Thanks David,
I will have another look with fresh eyes. Daylight beat me as well. Greg p.s. I noticed one of the little bulbs that light the selector buttons had blown. Are they easy to find ? |
