Monster 401

I've just found this on the web which appears to detail a custom build by the Brabazon chaps:

New Project Car: Brabazon Bristol 401

It looks like it could be a lot of fun if slightly terrifying!

Doesn't look a Hemi to me. It looks suspiciously like the 400 cid B block engine as found in Bristol 411/412

I don't think a hemi would fit in a Bristol 401 anyway. Although I suppose it makes the article more dramatic :/

Old Bristol with huge big block Chrysler engine

Goes to show, people will do most anything when it come to automobiles. I my mis-spent youth, I too had a need for speed. My fine-running XK-120 drophead got the treatment. I was barely able to keep up with the likes of large Buicks and Oldsmobiles in street racing. I sold the classice DOHC 3.4 to a willing buyer, with the old Moss gearbox with bad synchros. In it's place went a 331 Cu. in Chrysler hemi. Bags and bags of torque. With a 4 speed transmission in high gear, I could pull away from a dead stop at idle. Surprisingly, my engine weight was nearly the same, the engine sitting back quite a bit more. No regrets.

Ronald - you should have been shot ! A beautiful British classic ruined by putting an American Chrysler engine in it !!

Ahh, but wait a minute ... Isn't that what a Br..

Anyway, looking at the series 6 wheels on the modified 401, you could almost be led to believe they had attached a Aerodyne body to a 412 / 603 chassis and running gear !

That would work for me - especially if it was allowed in the Mille Miglia :-)

A very relaxing video on what looks like an un-relaxing car: Brabazon Motors Project 401
