They work.Yesterday on way to London suffered a flat. As I was following an
AM Vantage at only slightly below three figures, this could have been a
problem. As it was, the only clue to the situation was a sudden nasty noise
from the ns rear. No yawing about or anything like that. Two morals though:
first, check the pressure in the spare more often. 12 psi was a bit
inadequate. Second, don`t put off taking nuts for the spare as well as for
the Avons. You see, my spare is a steel wheel cos the big Avons with 225
section don`t fit in the compartment. Avon nuts don`t fit the steel
properly. And, of course, the standard wheel brace fits the steels but not
the Avons. Fortuneately I`d some tools in the boot. So I limped home. Peter
PS I was reminded of how fine it would be to have some nice new ss nuts ...

Peter, I think my Avons safety wheels have 215 tyres on them but the spare will fit in the wing bay - you just need to remove one or two black painted wood blocks which provided a limit/rest for the narrower steel wheel.

Now you just have to find a tyre fitter who can follow the instructions on how to remove and fit tyres on those wheels!

Mine are 225 section. The spare is a steel wheeled 215.

I realise this Peter, but if your wing bay has the same blocks of wood in place that mine did, when you remove them you will probably find that an Avon wheel will fit, with a 225 tyre.

Kevin,

Not sure if internal dimensions of Peter's 412 (Fridge) bay will be
the same as say a 411.

I am putting either 205/215 on my 406 using 15" Minilites. Wodden
blocks to be removed.

We're talking two concurrent Bristol models here, both of which used parts dating back to the 407. I would put money on it that those wing bays are the same size.

Bristol didn't like changing things unless it was absolutely essential, I'm sure that's why they survived so long.
