Yes, the V8 exhausts do suffer from that issue and are easy to damage if used off road such as when attending shows, the 603 has slightly better ground clearance than some of the earlier cars and the previous owner of mine had made skid pan/guards for the main silencers that would have done a 4x4 justice.
While looking at mufflers ( silencers for fellow UK dwellers ) to fit on a Rolls Royce I have with an American diesel engine I found some on offer that already have this protection built in, while not as strong as the guards on my 603 the protection they give prevents the bottom edge of the mufflers catching on any obstacles.
Take comfort that they are not as close to the ground as an E-Type or Healey 3000.
