Bristol Car values The Oldie February 2016

Alan Judd has written an interesting piece about classic car values published in the latest issue of The Oldie (cover date February 2016). He talks about Bristol values and how he has watched them move.

procurationem Michael Barton.

Do you have a link to the article?

As it is the same publisher, I imagine it is the same as [i]Private Eye[i] and expects readers to go out an purchase a copy (not being available on-line)!

So this thread is essentially an ad for The Oldie?

Wow. You guys are tough. I get Vintage Roadcar/Racecar in the mail but I also get an e-mail as soon as the old issue is online. The December issue is available now.

I looked at the Oldie website. I thought it was an awesome magazine.
I don't think, if this was a marketing ploy to increase membership, that it was very well thought out since only three of us have responded.

I would be interested in knowing the gist of the article though just for the matter of discussion on the forum. I have been conducting my own study of Arnolt-Bristol prices in the last few years. I'd like to compare.

Some British publishers are clearly not as generous :)

Hmm, but 139 people have read the thread so far and many hundreds would have received the initial post by email. Every little helps.

Yes, it would have been nice if someone could share the gist of the article. I would if I could get it. I tried to get the three issues for £3, but that's only for the UK. I had a look at a sample of the digital version but it's not possible to re-size to my phone screen, so I won't be buying it that way. Needless to say I'm not paying £55 for a year's subscription just so I can see the article.

So are you going to share that with us? ;)

Of course. First they started out not expensive and then collectors started to get wind of how awesome they are and now they are getting expensive and expensiver (word made up for the sake of accuracy).

I hope this helps.

Well I finally received the Feb issue of The Oldie, no thanks to the publisher.

Alan Judd says a Bristol 410 he could have bought in 2008 for £20k is now worth £42k, and the 405 he was offered for £16k is now worth multiples of that. This sums up his commentary on Bristol prices.

As for The Oldie mag, unless you want to see adverts targeting people in their twilight years on every second page, I wouldn't rush out and buy a copy. It's definitely not worth the cover price for the Judd article!
