401 on ebay!

There is a 401 on US ebay, in Los Angeles, with a 6 cyl unnamed engine, but with a Bristol block & some engine bits. & days to go! Item 221707259348.
8 brave bidders so far!

The engine is a Ford 6. That engine came in either 144, 170, or 200 CID. The intake manifold was integral to the Cyl Head and had a 1v carburetor. They have welded up a horrible modification to the original manifold for the SU carburetors, with 3 right angles in the flow path, and it looks like the only connections to the original manifold are at the ends.

John,
Is this Ford engine the same type fitted to the late 50's early 60's english Ford Zodiac and used by AC.
The car itself has been through a few dealers over a period of around a year, it is a job to work out from the photograps how sound the main chassis is and i notice also it has a KPH speedometer despite being RHD, might have an interesting history, don't like the look of the cut away bumper especially if it was done to overcome cooling issues.
A few other interesting bits came up using Bristol 401 as a search item so well worth a look.
Geoff.

A couple of people tried to post to this thread by email and their emails came to me (webmaster) so I will post them here;

One was a link to the dealer's own website, which gives an indication of the price sought ($26,000). Seems high considering the car needs total rebuild and de-modification, and no doubt some hard to source engine parts. Assuming the block is sound and the crank is still usable.

The other was this comment;

"Very interesting. Apparently it is chassis 401/909, body 401/2/308 & the block with it is 85C/1814
Not for the faint hearted! Not sure I am brave enough!"

A quick look at the website makes it look as if they specialise in "Sheds". Some very tired & rusty money-pits there.
