girling front brake discs for a 603s
 

- having been looking almost everywhere it seems I may have to buy these from Bristol themselves..
As I am overseas I am trying all I can to avoid the hefty price tag & steep postage charges due to the size/weight.


Can anyone help with some other codes? ( other than the bristol / girling codes that are on this site )

If other discs can be machined to fit this isn't a problem at all. - but the donor disc / car would be great.


As the rims and wheel studs are jag pattern of 5x 4&3/4" (5x120.65) i have looked at the jag brakes of course, but they don't like they can be machined to fit.
the disc fixing holes are 5x4&1/4" dia centre hole of 79mm.
dia 274mm height 40mm thickness 1/2" ?



Please tell me I have another option open to me!

Powertrackbrakes couldn't help me, I already asked them.
but I do have other brake parts coming from them too.

- edited to add - no joy back from pastparts either for these discs.

keep your fingers crossed.
focus2 rear discs look to have the same height, bolt circle dia, and disc thickness.
they may need spinning down by 3mm and we'll see about the centre hole.

will know in the morning!!!!

Doubt it , but I believe ACCS sometimes machine Jag discs to suit

There is a manufacturer that do short runs near me so I will check the costs and see if worthwhile

I do have a deal on the 4 pot calliper upgrade for 410 onward V8's that fit straight on and use the same pads , discs etc -- send email if of interest.

i have looked into jag discs, but they all look too tall.
unless you go for a vented disc conversion i suppose, but then you'd need spacers for the calipers, or other calipers as you say.

it wouldn't surprise me if the solid ford discs were easily adapted to use at either end of the car - the front or rear disc diameters differ, will recheck the height when old and new are on a proper flat surface next to one another.



bristol themselves surely wouldn't justify a single casting run of a couple of hundred discs to keep on the shelf for spares.. just doesn't add up financially or storage wise.

I would be surprised if ACCS or Spencer Lane Jones don't have them on the shelf at a reasonable price .

I know Range Rover , Jag and BMW are the same PCD but I've never seen a 120 PCD Ford ?

Bristol wouldn't necessarily need to have a casting made , as a number of companies stock blanks that can be machined / drilled to size

The other front callipers I mentioned are a direct replacement that use existing mounting points, pads and discs -- just 4 pot instead of three pot, as used on Blenheim 3/4

I have some brand new discs for a 411 bought from Bristol, which are very likely to be the same as those used on the 603. I can take measurements if needed.

update - the ford discs almost fit.


the fixing bolt dia is the same ( 4 & 1/4" ) - it is a smaller dia than the studs for the rims.
the height and thickness are good, but the braking surface isn't enough wide enough to take the full pad.

& also -until the outer diameter is turned down on a lathe i can't tell for sure is the caliper might foul the hub of the disc - it is a very close call.

one option might have been to grind the inner edge of the pad away, but that is bodge I will not do. - though i had considered it as an option.

- when all other options dry up this may be a valid course to take, but not today - so for future reference only - focus 2 rear discs!

ACCS have them in stock and always have had

Everything you have been asking is already available on this site.
ACCS are mentioned, past parts, all the advice you need.
The club magazine has done articles of brakes etc. the one thing you should not mess about with is brakes, not much else will kill you. Grinding down Ford discs to fit a Bristol 603 when parts are readily available is complete nonsense!
Take my advice and Greg's, contact ACCS, do not be another car wreck!

As i mentioned before I'd been trying to avoid postage of heavy items for obvious reasons - if the other discs had just required minor adjusting then I would have had no qualms about their fitment.


You guys may know exactly who and where ACCS are, but they are somewhat hidden in this digital age, even on this site.
