Default Type 400 bonnet handles

My early 1947 Type 400 which is being restored currently has locking bonnet handles fitted. I have been told that originally it would have had plain non-locking handles. Bristol Cars only have records of the locking handle (Part No. N644531). Can anyone confirm what type of handle would have originally been fitted?

Many thanks,

John

Interesting John

My 400 has non locking handles on the bonnet which I had assumed was a result of recent restoration works.

Have you had any off forum confirmations please. If not I will try to dig out info from early 400 workshop manuals

Good luck with the resto....well sorted 400 are in my opinion a delightful car with real character

Hello Metalman,

Based on information supplied by Geoff Dowdle and others it appears that there were two types of bonnet handle fitted to the 400, both lockable. The early type as fitted to my car is slightly smaller than the later type and does not have a central rib.
