Rocker box refurbishment
I have a pair of rocker boxes that need refurbished.
They are made of magnesium I believe so need careful prep prior to finishing. Has anyone here got a good prep method and how did you finish them off ( ie high temp powder coat/ stove enamel/ etch primer and paint? Regards, Graham |

rocker covers
I used a good quality spray engine enamel/ceramic by Dupli-Color.
Stripped to bare metal with ordinary "hardware store" paint stripper. Chemical stripper may oxidise the surface, but doesn't matter if you are painting over. Magnesium is porous, and can trap dirt/moisture. I used a hot air gun to thoroughly dry the surface before painting. So be mindful of the ambient humidity/temperature. I opted for a "cast alloy" semi-gloss finish. Matt may look more understated. No bubbling after many years. (I am unable to upload images for some obscure reason). Can send pictures to your email. |
