Default Aluminium welding

"I wish that I could TIG weld. Only done MIG on thick sheet."

A years ago, I watched the "artisan" who did most of the aluminum
work on my Frazer Nash gas weld (nearly an open flame, old technique)
an aluminum butt joint about 24" long on another project. The bead
looked like it came from a machine.

I know what you mean. I have been in the aluminium business all my working life involved in all forms of transportation end uses. The shipyards were the ones that always impressed me the most, especially the posh yacht builders.

It's a shame that so many of the manufacturing skills have been lost in the UK. I would guess there is about only 15% of the shipyards left from when I started 39 years ago.

Thanks you bankers out there.

Used to be a useful little engineers near me, one of the guys had a lifetimes experience in welding alluminium, his work was just incredible, the workshop closed down and I met him a few months later in The local Asda, wearing a green uniform and a big 'Happy to help' badge, made me sick to my stomach to think of his wasted talent, and now he directs miserable shoppers to their Stella / catfood / pizza.

Yes, I want Ozy back at his abusive best for a rant at the bankers and the politicians that have turned the UK into a manufacturing waste land. How do we have an economic recovery when we don't make anything to sell ?

Some of the huge proud manufacturing companies I have worked with that now have gone have made me shed the odd tear. Our government have even awarded war ship contracts to France and most of the metal is imported.

Last one out turn the lights off.

Here's to Bristol

I have known Ozy since a fantastic trip we (the BOC) did round Southern
Ireland in 2002 I think. He was funny, erudite and kind.
I had just had one leg amputated and the trip was a bit of a challenge for
me, but without the humour of Ozy, David Dale,
Snoring Norman and others I would have found the trip very daunting.
Geoffrey Herdiman organised the trip, the last one I have been able to
afford or have not been in hospital when it took place.
These people showed me what club Bristol was all about and were to coin a
phrase "Bristol Cream", to loose one through a rant and banter is sad.
We lost Philippa, a great addition, and far better looking than her car
(412) :-). This too was sad, she was a judge at last years BOC
Concours.
I admit that the number of emails was irritating, as you saw from my
comments, but never the less Ozy was a good contributor and
very knowledgeable about Bristol's et al. Perhaps a rein should have been
pulled quietly and gently instead of expulsion.

Could you please bring him back from the sin bin.

Regards,

Nick

Yes, It wasn't Ozy's fault that the medication was too strong and interacted violently with the Vick's vapour rub and Vegemite.

Two visible yellows and a red please, especially to Mr Rubber for putting people off from posting that know about cars. I know he has a superiority complex that far out weighs my inferiority complex but maybe he would be happier on a spelling forum.

Let me guess -- I have a problem!

Greg

P.S. Andy - The beer is on me next time you are over from cheese head land and I won't even call you a engelse kaaskop smeerlat Klootsak ---

Default Ranting

Kevin, In theory we should have a special thread called 'Ranting about the Twats that run the World', but to be much use we would need to somehow get this forum elevated to the status of 'Forum everyone in the world HAS to read.' Then our mildly worded posts word be more pointful.

Sounds a good idea. Welcome back Ozy?
I'm a naughty boy too.
Also thrown out of a few clubs in the past.
But I'm not bad! Or stupid.
Andy.

Default Thor is not Ozzy or Ozy

Sorry to disappoint, but I am not Ozy. I was in at the very start of the old BEEF when Kevin felt there was a need for an independent Bristol Forum .

Back in those days we all posted in west country accents, moy luvverrrrgh.

I chose the name 'Thor' in honour of one of our most distinguished contributors who goes by the name of Bellerophon - the one who rides pegasus the wing-ed horse of Bristol emblematic fame. Thor is famous for his hammer, and as an engineer (injunear), I thought I would be Thor - the one who wields his hammer to fit wheels and tune carburettors .

Thor.

Thor, you are far to sophisticated to be of the brigade that, 'if it dont
fit hit it wiv a hammer', but many good things are forged with a hammer. I
hope things are going well with you as we have not seen much of you lately.
My regards,
Bellerophon
