401 Paint Colours
Hi everyone
I have a lhd 401 which I have had soda blasted and prepared for colour, it seems it was painted some colour of red originally. Can anyone help me with colours on these cars - was Metaline used at his time or on later cars and does anyone know where I can find a chart? Regards Steve |

Steve ,
Original paint colours for 401 & 402 are as follows Information taken from BAC Sales brochures Type 401 & 402 Black, Bristol Maroon, Bristol Green, Surf Blue, Azure Blue, Cambridge Grey, Heather Grey, Lavender To special order Off White, Light Maroon, Beige Grey & Belco Chrome Green Upholstery Beige Leather with Brown piping and Brown carpets Unfortunately I dont have the Paint Formula for each colour . I can only assume the red colour on your 401 is probably Bristol Maroon (not Metaline ) What is the chassis number of your 401 ?? Do you know where it was first delivered , as a few of the LHD cars were sent to various countries for dispay at Motor Shows and could have been painted special paint colours & fitted with special trim. Rolls Royce Regency Red is the closest match I could get to the red on my 1953 403. I have noticed that many Aerodyne owners prefer a lighter red though.
'Bristol Red' did tend to become a lighter colour over the years Bristol used it. |
