Rear Shock leak// 411 Series 3

Am wondering if anyone can throw some light on leaking differential fluid from rear shock? Is this "normal" or even just my imagination? Thanks so much for any advice.

Richard the diff fluid is self contained in the diff. The diff has a gasket on the rear plate and a seal on each of the input and output shafts.

The shock absorbers also have their own self contained fluid.

Maybe what you are looking at is the self levelling system. From memory this was introduced on the 411 S3. That often leaks and isn't really much use. There's a reservoir and pump for this in the engine bay, which you can safely remove.

Can you post a picture of the offending leak?

kevin sorry to correct you but the series 2 411 was the first with this feature

I presume that by self-levelling system you mean something quite different from the Armstrong Select-A-Ride, fitted to 408's and possibly earlier? That was certainly problematic and I believe always removed.

Yes Bryn, it is a real self levelling system with its own engine driven hydraulic pump.
