Default V8 Service Manual

Does anyone have any information as to if there are any service manuals for the V8 series - 410 in particular? Does anyone have a copy of servicing information for this car. I do have the Spare Parts and driver's 410 Instruction Manual but nothing much else.

If you mean a workshop manual, I don't believe anything exists. However, most major components are common to other makes of car. What particular aspects of the car do you need help with?

Kevin, what I need is some general servicing of the general vehicle which extends to engine, transmission and running gear, including the suspension. I had a suspicion there was not much information pertaining to the V8s as a publication that marries all this together. It would be an almost perfect world if there was such a thing!

John, maybe we should create something! With the collective knowledge and experience in this forum it should surely be quite straightforward.

Actually I think I might have a workshop manual for the 408, and that would probably contain much of what we need. Come to think if it I think I may also have an Esso worshop servicing chart for the 409. I will see what I can come up with!

excellent idea - There hopefully be other V8 owners who may be able to contribute information. I know there are servicing manuals for the Bristol sixes. I know that the engines have quite a lot of information around relating to servicing them - but I for one, know very little about working on suspension and setting it all up correctly and how to remove/replace components (etc).

If you are or became a member of the Bristol Owners Club you could try the Bristol Owners Club reprints secretary at reprints@boc.net. From memory I believe that the last workshop manual that Bristol Cars produced was for the 409, but you won't find that much changed under the skin, as it were, after that.

I'm not sure who is fulfilling the reprints role now

The last workshop manual that Bristols published as far as I am aware was the combined volume for the 407 and 408. I supplemented this with an American Chilton manual that covered the later engines and gearboxes in the cars they were in originally, and some engine and gearbox specific tech books which covered standard overhauls and modification for road and race use.
The 407/408 manuals do turn up from time to time on ebay but are not as comprehensive as the 2 litre manuals at least up to the 405.
If it helps I can dig out the various American books I bought and post a list as most should still be available.

I have just been on eBay (uk site) and there is a 407/408 workshop manual on offer in the Motors section, subsection manuals and literature, opening price just under £50. There is also a 408 handbook and various 2 litre handbooks and parts books from the same vendor.
I have bought Bristol handbooks from this seller recently, condition was as described if not better and they were very well packed for delivery.
I should point out I have no connection with the seller other than being a satisfied customer on several occasions.

Yes, having checked my photocopy, the last workshop manual that the Bristol Owners Club managed to get hold of was for the 407/8.

The 407/408 workshop manual includes a maintenance schedule chart, most of which (if not all) will be relevant to the 410.

Default V8 Service Manual

Thank you all, I will contact the BOC and see if a reprint is available - that will be a start!

Kevin, my posts don't seem to be coming through on my email for some reason - not sure if the problem is at my end.

John, there could be a number of reasons. Please contact me off forum via this form to discuss and let me know your current email address.

Perhaps the club could copy the 407/408 manual and make it available on the website? The Australian Rolls Royce Owners Club have done this for all models and I have found them enormously valuable for keeping my cars on the road.

The Bristol 407/408 manual is less comprehensive but I am sure members would find it useful. If John has any specific sections of the manual in mind I would be happy to scan them and send them as pdf files.

The Australian club provides the RR/Bentley info for free and it's most helpful.
