412 Headlight Rear Covers

I am reinstalling the grill , bumpers and headlights after a full repaint of the car.

My question is. Should the headlight buckets have some sort of cover to fill the large opening ( used to access the globes )at the back of the buckets ? Without this cover the reflectors, lenses and wiring are exposed to the elements. My headlights have no such cover and were very dirty and stained inside. Advice much appreciated.

Not sure about the 412, but the 411 had protective parts to the rear of the lamps. It makes sense to have something to shield from the elements.
