Default 408 dangerously sloppy handbrake linkage

While under the rear end today, I discovered the hand/parking brake linkage on my car is extremely sloppy. So much so that movement of the lever on the parking brake on one rear wheel has started to wear away the brake line to the caliper!!!!! See the photo. Scary stuff and I'll have to replace that line. Anyway, does anybody know how I can tighten up the rods linkages on these brakes to reduce the slop in the system, please? the manual specifically says: "on no account attempt to correct excessive travel by adjusting the cable or rods..........' but it looks like the rods are threaded at each end and may be adjusted. has anybody done this?
