Graeme at Bristol spares was able to supply a replacement lock set, now fitted. No stock currently of the headlight switch with the correct fittings, but for now I have adapted the MGB switch, which is working fine. Also fitted replacement radiator cooling fans (VW aftermarket units) and new alternator, and a new Edelbrock AVS2 650cfm carb, which should be more efficient than the oversized Performer 750cfm, so good to go..
Thank you for the suggestions.

Dezelsky, do you have part numbers and/or the vehicles the VW fans were fitted to please?
If it helps anyone, on my 411 S3 I'm currently running 2 x 12" Citroen BX single pusher fans, as pushers in their original shrouds. It's working fairly well here in the UK, both at idle and at speed.
Better than the originals, certainly, which on my car are 10" Kenlowes and I think may have used heater blower motors. They're in a shroud which appears to cover more of the rad matrix that would be ideal. The BX ones leave the great majority of the matrix clear.

Hello Mr Green, I fitted 2 aftermarket VW fans sourced via autodoc.com, part no:7022488 https://www.autodoc.co.uk/nrf/7022488. You are right, the fan blades have a much bigger surface area than the originals, so tend to restrict air flow a little, but I assume they just keep spinning with the force of air before the automatic thermostat switches them on. Currently on another long European trip and so far so good, they are doing their job well.
